I've been riding Panaracer Nifty Swiftys on my Bleriot since 2007. I was
happy with their flat resistance and the durability of the rubber, but the
sidewalls seemed to get brittle and tear after a while. When a second
sidewall rip occurred, I decided to look for other options. I somehow
talked myself into splurging on the Loup Loup Pass Ultralights, and wow...
what a difference. I always thought casing suppleness was marketing BS, but
apparently not. Despite the Compass tires being considerably wider than the
Nifty Swifties, they roll much more smoothly, and along with the reduced
weight, I feel like I've gained a couple mph when riding with no extra
effort!

Regarding mounting on Velocity Synergy rims, I have 2007 era Synergies, and
mounting was mildly annoying, in that some attention was required to get
the tire evenly seated. Once inflated, though, as far as I can see the tire
stays put. I have a hundred miles or so commuting miles on the tires so far
and they are still evenly mounted.

Anyway, so far it appears to have been money well spent.

Does anyone know if Rivendell's own online store no longer carrying Nifty
Swifties is because Grant has recognized that they are actually not very
good tires?
