Hi Ted,
The Redwood will fit Compass Barlow Pass tires, mine measure 37mm so 
technically not 38mm. No room for fenders though, and I'm using Tektro 
sidepulls, the bigmouth variety.
The Riv Sam fork (sidepull version) is longer than the Redwood fork, so 
with re-raking I'm hoping it'll get close to the fork length of the 
original fork.
When I first got my Redwood, I tried it with a tall Acorn rando bag and 
didn't care for the handling. If I could improve the handling with a loaded 
front bag, the Redwood would be my ideal road bike.
