Re:my wife's bike. We are now in our 60's ( 64 and 65 ), but in our 50's we 
road a lot (6-7000 miles a year). We had to rebuild her Campy shifters 
several times and had to replace wheel sets, and finally replaced the Campy 
triple group with a Shimano Ultegra 6800 11sp group. But the frameset will 
remain her favorite forever.
In my experience, a well built and well designed bike is a great 
investment. Heck, we even had her Rex repainted.
