Yes , just ride whatever you want ! "Optimal" depends on one's judgement of what that means. To call that a "standard", when such judgement is always changing, such a "standard" would be no standard at all because a true standard would have to be universal and apply to everyone all the time, it would have to be absolute, unchangeable.
So a personal preference does not even remotely make a standard.
