"the believers" - zoe heller. fantastic. "nine stories" - salinger, about my 20th re-read at this point. "a perfect day for bananafish" is one the best short stories ever written in my opinion. "the humbling" - philip roth. not his most impressive work, but he's such a good writer that it doesn't really matter.
