Quickbeam Hunqabeam here, so not what you’re asking about, but I’ve been fascinated by similarities and differences as I ride Shadowfax (my Hunqabeam) after riding the Quickbeam exclusively for six months. Much as Jim does, I ascribed many of the differences between the then Hunqapillar and QB to drivetrain deltas. Now, drivetrain is identical between, as are handlebar/stem. The only differences between them are geometry, tubing, and tire width (38mm knobbie vs. 2.1” knobbie).
Similarities: quinticential Rivendell smooth, stable ride and easy yet responsive handling. Differences: Shadowfax rolls over rocks and roots and even smooths out washboard better, yet I felt the tire inertia for the first ride or so (now it’s invisible to me). Shadowfax is more comfortable on the rough stuff and with a load. Quickbeam is spritely and geared higher. Interestingly, my ride times in the 71” QB and the 61” Shadowfax are nearly identical (though I donb’t time things to the second — they are within a minute or so of each other). I had thought Shadowfax would be my loaded bike, QB my dayload bike. It’s not going to be that simple, and that’s a fantastic “problem” to have! Grin.
