Less lever effort required for a given amount of braking power? That turned out to be what everybody meant about disc brakes "having more power," perhaps it's true here too.   Or, possibly, some old centerpulls really don't have all that much braking power, and in the wet that shows up?  I've heard that the long reach Diacompe centerpulls are really pretty weak.  Just guessing.

But either way, there's a Riv for that!
