After 20+ years in the ‘normal’ bike shop world, James and Candice decided to start Analog Cycles. It’s an alternative bike shop: completely off the grid, tucked in the middle of a maple grove, building bikes that require no electronic shifting, spandex, or special shoes. The shop is close to East Poultney, Vermont and it’s 200 year old village green. The village is nestled within a network of dirt roads, close to a budding mountain bike trail system. The quickly growing trail network features hundreds of acres of flowy mountain bike trails. Within the rough hewn walls of a sugar house turned bike shop, you’ll find useful products for exploring dirt roads, touring and camping. The emphasis is on well made, durable and repairable bikes, parts and accessories. Archival materials are used where possible. Waxed cotton rather than nylon fabrics. Leather in place of foam. Steel framed bicycles, not carbon fiber. Analog builds smart, reliable touring and adventure bikes. We specialize in bikes that are as easy to ride as they are to maintain. Unlike most contemporary bikes, our bikes are built with the end user in mind as both rider and field mechanic. Bikes go out the door with a mix of new and old technology: friction shifting paired with clutch derailleurs, traditional handbuilt wheels set up tubeless, ultra wide range gearing, generator hubs that power lights and simultaneously charge a phone while you ride. Folks come to us from all over the world for advice on fitting and custom builds. We’ve been lucky enough to ship bikes and esoteric parts to England, Sweden, Norway, German, Japan, Australia, Canada as well as across the US. In our tiny shop, you’ll find a wide range of bikes and frames from Rivendell, Crust, and Velo Orange. We stock generator lights from Busch and Muller, Schmidt and Sinewave, and hubs from Bitex, White Industries, Schmidt and Shutter Precision. Compass tires in the bigger sizes are stacked next to WTB tires and Schwalbe’s gravel offerings. We keep an assortment of Nitto racks, bars, stems and seatposts, Crust stems, our own Analog (w)Right stems, bars from Salsa, lots of Brooks and select Fizik saddles. Analog offers a number of different services: - Online and in-person ‘Enlightened Fitting’ - Practical wheelbuilds designed for you, not some generic industry standard - Full or partial custom bike builds. - Reimagined bike builds, in which we take an older frame you provide and help you make it useful for the kind of riding you do, now. - In Depth Tune and Overhaul work, specializing in bearing upgrades and long term preservation of the bike. You can take the train, fly, drive or ride to come see us. Let us know where you are coming from, and we can help figure out the best option for you. There is camping down the road at Lake St. Catherine State Park (a 15 minute bike ride away) or at one of the nearby B&B’s several of which are only 2 miles away. Come hang out, get help with a fit, or chat with us about a bike build. We’d love to see ya!
