Niobium is element 41, a transition metal.  It was previously called 
columbium, but the name change was some time ago.  

Niobium bike tubes are steel with a wee bit of niobium alloyed in.  It 
presumably changes the properties of the steel in some way I can't be 
bothered to worry about.
