I wasn't unclear on your curiosity.  I was unclear on precisely which 
question you were asking.  Now I think I understand that your two questions:

"anyone know why new MIT Homer frames cost $100 more than new MIT Sam 
frames?  Tubing?"

Could be rewritten to read:

"I assume that the Hilsen costs about $100 more to make than the 
Hillborne.  Why does the Hilsen cost about $100 to produce?  Is it because 
the tubing in the Hilsen is ~$100 more expensive than the tubing used in 
the Hillborne?"

Assuming those were the questions you were getting at, then those were the 
questions I attempted to touch on.  As far as I know, the tubing in both 
bikes are similar in price.  I do not think we can attribute the price 
difference to tubing.
