I recently encountered this exact issue on my Sam Hillborne. I mounted my 
Medium Saddlesack, and it pushes pretty hard against the cable (on Shimano 
CX 50 cantilevers), even with the support of a Nitto R14 rack. I just 
ordered a Nitto Saddlebag Wire Guard from Rivendell yesterday to deal with 
the issue.
