Carla,
I have experience with the Barlows (standard) and loved them - they're like
butter. But expensive at $62ish.. My wife still has a set on her Sam.

I also have experience with the Continental "Contact Speed". Officially
700x42 but actual was less, I think 41, for me at 45psi on Dyads. Much
cheaper than Barlow; Riv sells for $44. They give a great, quite ride and
have surprising grip. Nice profile too. I had these on my SimpleOne, but
I got another pair to try out on my Homer after I get tired (maybe not
ever?) of the Soma Cazaderos...

Cazaderos are excellent on pavement and hard pack. Quiet on pavement.
Looks great IMHO. The Cazaderos, officially 700x42, actually measure
40.5mm wide at 45 psi on Dyad rims that have an 18.6mm inner width.

No experience on gravel with either. However, recently I had to
unexpectedly veer off a paved greenway path into to a stretch of mud to
avoid a very deep puddle. The bite afforded by the Caz's side knobs was
most appreciated ... I was preparing to dump my Homer but didn't have to;
likely with slick Barlows, I may well have dumped it.

All 3 are very nice tires. I'd give the Barlow's the smoothest ride award,
but only barely. Every time I ride them I think about how buttery smooth
they are, but am a little afraid I'm gonna flat out, though that is based
on many other reviews and not my own experience. Just a bit of a nagging
fear. I don't read about loads of flats with either the Cazaderos nor the
Contact Speeds.I'd give the Cazaderos the award for most versatile given
the tread pattern, and my experiences. The Contact Speeds get the least
expensive award, and depending on the bike, the great looker award.
