I have an original Adventure, OEM on the Disc Trucker I use to commute. I
had a front wheel built for my generator front hub with a Velocity Synergy
(not a Cliffhanger) rim. The weight difference between the two was
impressive, despite the generator hub of the new one. The Alex Adventurer
is a heavy rim, and while it may have loose tolerances for roundness and
width at the joint, my commuter with disc brakes overlooks that flaw. I
carry about 25% less than you intend on my daily commute but weigh 20-25#
more than you depending on the weather and clothing necessary.

I've stuck to Velocity or Mavic rims for reasons made clear by Peter White
<https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/wheels.php>. Another ongoing thread
speaks to the value of roundness and flatness of rims before building a
wheel and many listers related the satisfaction of experience with a
finished wheel that had little deviation of roundness or spoke tension due
to the rim imperfections. I value builders' observations regarding rims'
quality. They also are pretty good at recommending them for use based on
rider weight, application, drilling, brake format and hub to be used.
Outlets of rims seldom have this degree of first person experience-based
information on their websites, comparatives being just the specs and price.

Use reports of rims seldom extoll virtues but rather criticisms revealed by
failure or damage since a wheel that stays true, round, facilitate keeping
the tubes/tires mounted and inflated are fairly discrete. I find it hard to
point to the attributes of a wheel in use that are due to the rim itself
except the brake web consistency over the joint. They do differ a lot in
how tires install, both in ease of getting between the bead hooks and ease
of seating for roundness while inflating.

What I can say about the Alex rim are really positive observations of
attributes of disc format brakes rather than the rim. Besides being heavy,
that wheel is out of round and seldom very precise in trueness. Can't
really say if much of that is from the machine build or the drudgery of
daily commuting through the seasons.
