You’re right, Joe. That was the question. But in playing with Sheldon’s gear calculator I realized a triple, which is what I’m buying with a Silver even if I use it as a single with chain guard, achieves exactly the gearing I want, with greater ease of gear change, and with flexability to inexpensively tweak the setup over time.
