Hi Bill-- It's at my LBS now and so I forwarded your directions to the owner/mech there who is my friend. So we'll see pretty soon. If it's broken, I think I'll replace it with a 9 speed trigger shifter and be done with BES on this bike, which is a recent Sam build.
