Well Emily & Leah -- The excitement was short lived. Kevin went to call up
Riv, and since I missed the initial pre-order, Golden Pliers could not
actually order my frame for dad. Guess that's Riv policy. Thursday it is
for me. I set a block of time on my calendar so no one will bug me and I
will be sure to get one.

My dad does know this bike is being built for him. We spent a week in the
San Juan Islands riding our bikes and kayaking early in March. He realized
his bars on his surly were not high enough, his back hurt, and he has lost
the mobility to easily hop on and off a bike with a horizontal top tube. He
asked me what options there are for step throughs in his size with 700c
wheels. I pointed out the Clem, the Platypus, and the Soma Buena Vista
Disc. He liked the Soma for price, but I have had an awful experience with
Soma in the past so I ushered him to Rivendell. We were going to go with
the Clem L at first -- but he is mostly using this bike for daily 10-15
mile rides around vineyards and orchards in Cornelius, Oregon. The Platypus
is a little lighter and he didn't want to maximize to the 2.4" tire
capability on the clem. 700x45 on the Platypus with Billie Bars and a
fillet brazed stem all seem like they'll get his bars higher, his back in a
better position, and ease of getting on and off.

Leah - is it your experience that getting on and off the Platypus is pretty
effortless and doesn't require a wild swing of the leg?
