"Step-over differences"

This is all very subjective but for me the difference of a couple inches is 
the difference between "that's super easy, I'm always doing it that way" 
and "that's kind of uncomfortable, I'll probably avoid it." My situation is 
a gradually creeping arthritis (it's a thing in my family) that's starting 
to sneak into my lower back/hips area, and some days are stiffer than 
others. Your dad may be more limber than I so this may not matter to him, I 
just know that half the time I try the step-over on my custom (or Susie) I 
end up kicking that dang tube. Ask me how I feel about scuffing the paint 
on my bikes!

Yep, I used it on an Appaloosa and it worked fine but I'm not comfortable 
recommeding on the slender forks Riv uses. I didn't keep mine on very long 
because it made me nervous, I would only use rear hub or mid-drive on a 
Rivbike now. 

I hope this information helps, just be aware that your dad may not 
experience ANY of this the way I've described it.
