Figured out the culprit. I had the cable housing running from the shifter 
pod all the way up the full length of the drop handlebar. I think the 
shallow drop and sharp angles of the modern Ritchey Butano bars was a bit 
too much for the cable to run smoothly in friction mode. I redid the 
routing and it works like a charm now. Adjusting the B limit screw also 
(mostly) fixed the rubbing problem with the shadow derailleur.
