Tanning: I stopped wearing cycling gloves a while back, largely because of
the way they made the backs of my hands look. If you're dedicated, you can
get the full grid from knit-backed gloves on there. I also found that two
layers of cotton wrap on the bars under bare palms is the ideal feel, and I
try very hard not to land on my palms if I go down. So, no gloves for me
(unless it's mid-40's or colder).

Linen/Seersucker: I haven't found linen to be good next to the skin, seems
to lie too close. I find seersucker shirts on closeout racks. Nobody ever
has them in their standard fare. Seems odd, right? Lands End, LL Bean, J
Crew are all in my collection at the moment. I recently bought a white
long-sleeve polo shirt, mesh cotton, from Lands End's school uniform
catalog. Great price, good fit, and very good temp control, thought I might
have to cut open the cuffs to gain a little airflow up the arms.

Leg Shaving: I started shaving my legs after hitting the pavement hard in a
race in high school. Massive amounts of road rash. Continued through
college, though I wasn't racing. Played ultimate, though, and some of the
fields were close enough to playing on concrete that I accumulated a fair
amount of road rash there, too. I don't think my skinny legs benefitted
aesthetically from shaving.

Wool undies: I did back-to-back 200km days recently, riding across
Wisconsin. I wore wool boxer briefs under light wool tights and Compass
knickers. Berthoud Aravis saddle. I used some Chamois Butter, and I had a
little bit of chafing under one sit-bone. It really is all about moisture
management down there, as long as you have a good saddle fit.

Glasses: The oversized look is in (again), but it's not for me. I've been
using the same Tifosi specs for years, and happily they keep selling
replacement lenses for them. Just the right amount of coverage for me. I
recently had a bit of a scare with blurry vision in one eye. After a day
and many thousands of dollars of tests, we're pretty sure it's not
neurological, probably dryness from wearing contacts so much. My
optometrist wants me to wear full coverage goggles. Ain't gonna happen. The
Tifosi specs I wear are plenty. I just need to be more active with the eye
drops.
