David, you are going to love your bike. For what you described, the AHH is perfect. I take mine off-road a bit at times, and its behavior on the road is so smooth and good. It is so excellent that you are going to have a bike that fits you, and this model nonetheless.
I highly recommend the Jack Browns as a way to optimize the bike, but I know others work well on it too. I often find myself thinking that the AHH is perhaps the best bike ever made. I get to ride mine home from work today.
