I will agree with most of what was said below but I will add that Cannondale tandems still seem to be one of the best values for the dollar in a new tandem. My stoker (wife) reports that the ride is much harsher on the C'dale then our lugged steel Bilenky Tandem. The thudbuster seat post softens up the C'dales ride significantly. The problem with used is finding one that fits both of you. If you can find one they will be much cheaper then new. Santana makes a good bike but often specs parts that are not standard on Tandems so you have to work a little harder to find them or have a local Santana dealer that you deal with. Good luck.
