I won't dispute Rohloff as "Lord of the Hubs", but another potential option to eliminate the need to cold set might include:
A Sturmey-Archer 5 speed hub with no brake; model S-RF5(W) or X-RF5(W) - low or hi flange. This hub has a 256% gear range and spacing of 119mm. Add a front derailleur, dual chainrings and a chain tensioner (the Alfine tensioner is excellent for this) and you now have a 2x5 internal geared transmission with a nice gearing range... or keep it simple as a 1x5 with a respectable gear range. Best part, though (IMO) - the SA hubs also give you several shifter options, including bar end, down tube or thumb shifter... THAT IS TOTALLY COOL... ...or do what I'm doing... go with a poor man's naked Rohloff... A Sturmey-Archer 2-speed (kickback shifter)... no messy cables, just a 33% boost to your SS... Oh yeah, go from Single Speed to "Super Sport".... vrooom...vroom....muscle bike... (sorry, it's past dinner time and I'm getting silly) Peace, BB On Dec 1, 6:02 pm, James Warren <jimcwar...@earthlink.net> wrote: > I too would love to hear an answer to that question, since if it is wise, I'm > pretty sure I'll do it to mine. > > > > -----Original Message----- > >From: "Scott G." <sco...@primax.com> > >Sent: Dec 1, 2010 11:26 AM > >To: RBW Owners Bunch <rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com> > >Subject: [RBW] Re: Quickbeam/Simpleone and Rohloff hub > > >Has anyone respaced a frame from 120mm to 135mm ? > > >Did you need to get the brake bridge moved or replaced ? > > >Rohloff in Africa........ > >http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=40881&start=0 > > >-- > >You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > >"RBW Owners Bunch" group. > >To post to this group, send email to rbw-owners-bu...@googlegroups.com. > >To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > >rbw-owners-bunch+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > >For more options, visit this group > >athttp://groups.google.com/group/rbw-owners-bunch?hl=en.- Hide quoted text - > > - Show quoted text - -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
