Thanks all for the thoughtful responses. I've emailed Alex Wetmore to inquire about his process in adjusting the Quickbeam's rear spacing. My buddy is pretty set on the Rohloff, as well as a Rivendell, so I'll let you all know how his process goes.
Had anyone ever used Sheldon's prescribed method of adjusting the spacing? http://www.sheldonbrown.com/frame-spacing.html It seems that in his thinking the 15mm change that would be necessary is a possibility. I've also alerted my friend to the Singular Peregrine, that looks like a great option if he doesn't want to attempt the spacing change. Thanks again.
