Anecdote: Carlos Romulo, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_P._Romulo, was, as were most Filipinos of the old generations, very short -- my mother,b. 1923, was 5'4" and (her words) "towered" above her male peers.
The story goes that Romulo was entertaining a group of American brass and one tall Texan leaned over and asked, "So, how does it feel to be with the big boys?" Romulo: "Like a dime among nickels."
