My Bombadil easily handles 2.25 knobbies. Not with fenders, but if I'm
running big knobs I don't want fenders.

Why not? The Bomba is a stronger mtb than anything from the '80s or
early '90s, and it's certainly as good as any rigid mtb made today. I
used to have a full-squish mtb, and I have a lightweight rigid SS
29er. I take my Bomba everywhere I'd take either of those bikes. With
a rigid bike, I won't ride as fast over some rough spots, and I'll
walk down some drops I could ride with suspension.

The next iteration of my Bomba will include drop bars and Hetres, to
see what kind of rando bike it can be. The flexibility of the Riv
designs is a bunch of the fun for me.

happy trails
