I wrap the belt/webbing around the seatpost and saddlesack or saddle wedge. I didn't cut it down, because I occasionally belt it around a backpack or other bag. A few extra turns around the seatpost seems fine. Good around a basket, and you can move it from bike to bike if you only have one triangle.
