Michael, my wife didn't want the bike either. Her Trek hybrid was just fine. . As I said she doesn't really care about bikes. Her bike in Japan is less than $100.00. Yesterday I asked her if she wanted to keep the Betty Foy or sell it and her answer was quick and unequivocal, no, she loves the bike and wants to keep it. I think she is surprised by the differences between the two bikes.
After her first ride, she said it was the first time her back didn't get sore. She said climbing hills was a lot easier and not just because of the gearing. I suspect the wheels played a big part. 700c with 35 mm tires hybrid tires can compete with Velocity Synergies and Grand Bois Hetere's. She loved the comfort of the ride from the tires and commented on this. The ability to really raise the bars was something she also liked. The shifting was also crisp and clean and she noticed. This is because I used Dura Ace bar end shifters and XT rear derailleur. In the back of my mind I know if she didn't like it, I would sell the frame and keep the parts for myself and build a Hilsen for my bike. With you having your Sam, I guess that isn't the cards for you. For those who care about the build. 50 cm Betty Foy Albatross bars, cork grips 10 cm Nitto Tallux stem Dura Ace bare end shifters 165 mm Sugino X2 triple MKS pedals Tektro brakes Nitto crystal seat post Brooks B68 XT rear Shimano Ultegra triple front derailleur.
