Yup, slip rings are expensive. I've built a fair alternative using four ball bearing assemblies, two for each circuit. Joe Sommer proposed using copper clad board etched in a circular pattern, coupled with carbon motor brushes. Of late I have been eyeballing a toy that my daughter has. It's a "ray gun" with several LED's on a rotating head. In my mind, it must have some manner of slip ring assembly. If only I can spirit the thing away without her noticing.....
