MDF is rather heavy, is it not? I believe the only thickness is about  
3/4in which becomes rather heavy. It would be advantageous if you had  
a planing machine which might be able to basically thin the 3/4in ply  
to maybe 1/2in (reducing wood weight by 33%, correct?) and the wood  
will still be very smooth.
