Hey Jerry,

Judging by your comments, you should follow this group more often, you'd
certainly fit right in, and I'm sure you'd provide a treasure trove of
knowledge about the hobby!!

That said...

I certainly meant no disrespect, and you are right, I've never built a gas
powered anything, although I do remember flying a glow plug powered P-51, on a
tether. I forgot the make of the plane (Cox, perhaps), but it had a great
business model... LOL, as in a great way to guarantee a smashed aircraft every
time you flew it, "Time to buy another one!!". Flying the plane in circles
until you fell over from dizziness, quite the visual !! But I was only nine at
the time.

I did see and commented on, (as most anyone on this site will tell you, I like
doing, and do it well on occasion...) your video with the Tiger, and your
friend's Panther. Based solely on the video, and what I've seen from this
group's R/C tanks, their 1/6th scale, electrically powered tanks do seem more
robust, and speedier than your 1/8th gas powered Tiger.

And remember, I did state that I thought a gas powered tank would have power
"to burn", pardon my pun. Perhaps a future video of your tank running full
throttle would make believers out of us electric "heathens". Throw in a few
small hills too. Give us a heads up when the video posts...

And, as much as I'd rather not rattle the hornets nest (as said crowd will also
validate as a likely tendency of mine...LOL) I must say that the electric
tanks' (within this group) overall performance is much quieter and does so at
many less RPMs (and presumably less wear and tear).

These are strictly observations, it really isn't meant as criticism. I'm sure
you like your tank's performance, had extreme satisfaction building it, and
that it brings you much pleasure.

And for the record, group member Steve Tyng has crafted an electric 1/6th
Cromwell (T40) that he claims can do about 8 mph. I've seen it running in
person, and while he did not conduct speed trials that day (too busy battling
other tanks) I must say that it is very fast...

Hope these comments have made things more clear.

On this second page, look for the video on the right hand side, down a
ways, and the gas tank makes it's appearance at 1'10" into the video, Jerry
Carducci and his gasoline powered Panther, from Bay Area Tankers Group...

I'm surprised that the tank's performance seems rather anemic, you'd expect
otherwise. I'm sure Steve and the Pitelli's et al are silently grinning about
this.

I just happened across this post. " performance seems rather anemic" !
Hmmm. Let's see. I was running in 1st gear and at about 2/3 throttle. The model
weighs 76
pounds. The engine produces about .8 hp @ 14,000rpm. It has 3 forward speeds
+ reverse. Assuming it can get enough traction it generates enough power at
full throttle
in 1st gear to pull a disproportionate weight on level ground. I've never
encountered terrain it can't navigate. The transmission is virtually
indestructible; my oldest example
is nearly 40 years old and still functions like the day I purchased it. The
Webra 6,5ccm / .40cid "blackhead is one of the most durable designs ever.
Simple, powerful
and easy to maintain. Safety? Used and maintained properly they aren't any
more dangerous than a keyboard in the wrong hands. The majority of the folks
who've written disparaging remarks regarding gas /glow powered tanks don't have
experience with them and aren't really qualified to comment on them. I've been
working with them since the mid 1970s.
