to the work, expression, or even the manifestation.
This would be an interesting separation of the "bibliographic" and
inventory management functions -- which I think do not always fit
together neatly. However, FRBR diagrams the item as being associated
with only one manifestation (although a manifestation can have
multiple items), which implies that the manifestation and item must
describe the same "thing."
Can we begin to do some modeling of this? Posit certain scenarios (and
we can undoubtedly find real items in libraries that provide plenty of
good examples) and see how they could be represented in a FRBR
universe? It seems to me that examples in this case are worth a
thousand back and forths in email. :-) I could set up a page on the
futurelib wiki and start putting examples there that people could
comment on and try out. Anyone interested?
