The fixture - and putting the correct lamp into it - is more important as efficiency IMO. Some lamps burn out very early in the wrong fixture. My recent article in the Huffington Post sums up my view: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-r-fink/energy-efficient-lighting_b_1961945.html
That said, I'm finding some excellent 120vac LED products these days. Haven't tried any in tube format yet, but I have an undercounter LED strip in the works to replace a tired t-8 FL. Dont bother with DC LEDs unless you are lighting an RV or camper. There are some good DC LED fixtures out there for that purpose, but they are made to be "built-n". -- Dan Fink, Executive Director; Otherpower Buckville Energy Consulting Buckville Publications LLC NABCEP / IREC accredited Continuing Education Providers 970.672.4342 (voicemail)
