Hi Hilton, In my experience the only way to know if it will work is to try it. ( it'll run it, but might not start it) Because there are so many different quality motors out there all with similar "ratings" but they don't work the same. I've seen a 5hp completely trip off line a 15kw diesel generator.
One option is to swap the motor for a 3 phase and then get a 240 single phase to 3 phase motor speed controller.
