Hi William
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Good catch on the observations in the Radian Quick Start Guide.

The QST statement

Only one AC source can be wired at a time; use an external selector switch if
more than one source is available.”

Is incorrect.
All Radian Inverters have 2 ac inputs, an external selector switch is
unnecessary. That almost has to come from the FX inverters.
I have notified the Technical Manual Writer and he will change that .
Thank you

On the other observations I will have to split hairs.
The easiest first.
In the Quick start Guide
We do recommend #6 AWG THHN copper wire
under the heading
AC Wire Sizes and Torque Values

In the Quick Start Guide
Under
AC Wiring Notes
It is stated:
The Transfer Relay is rated 60 Aac….
Then recommends up to a maximum 60 amp breaker.
This is not a false statement.

In the Radian Installation Manual
On Page 38 it is stated:
All overcurrent devices in Permanent Installations must be sized for 50 Aac or
less.

So perhaps a little history
The relay is the same ac input relay that was used on the Trace SW inverter,
and on the Xantrex SW and SW + Inverters.
It is rated at 60 amp pass through. In the GS installation manual we state a 50
Amp breaker because that is what we use in the GS load centers.
Throughout OutBack’s history the ac breaker size has changed between 50 and 60
amps.
The relay itself has not changed.
I happen to like the 50 amp breaker as it should trip before the relays get
stressed.

I hope this helps.
Take Care All

Friends:

I was wiling away the time perusing a Radian (GS4048/GS8048) quick-start guide
that came with a recently acquired set of Radians. I was quite surprised to
see the AC inputs, outputs and throughputs are shown in the quick-start guide
as rated at 60 Amp AC. The guide also indicates a minimum wire size of #6AWG
(does not specify CU or AL, will assume CU).

I always remembered that rating to be 50 Amps AC. I checked old and new
installation manuals and they all say 50 Amps AC. Am I missing something?

The guide also says: “Only one AC source can be wired at a time; use an
external selector switch if more than one source is available.” It really
sounds like this section was cut and pasted from an FX/FXR manual by mistake.
Anyone catch this? Lones, you out there?

William
