Some psychiatrists would tell you that pointing out the flaws in
others is often a way of covering up or ignoring our own, but I am an
advice columnist, so I will leave that for you to sort out. I am
going to assume that you really want to stay together with the
REALbasic EditField. It sounds to me like you've had a long lasting
relationship find EditField very comfortable. NSTextField may be the
sexy blonde you see at the park walking her dog, but that's probably
all she does. As you mentioned, EditField is comfortable with you as
well, going all the other places you like to go and working with your
ElfData already. It might be a lot of work to break NSTextField into
your ElfData, and still, NSTextField won't want to go to Windows or
Linux with you. You'll have to go stag there...
Well, I think I've helped you make the right decision, but there is a
problem. EditField isn't stupid. She probably knows that you've been
looking around, and she'll find out from her friends what you have
been saying about her. I would suggest three things. First, realize
that you were wrong and behaved really terribly. Second, bring her
flowers and a nice dinner, maybe a Quarter Pounder meal (Super sized,
with a Diet Coke, of course). Third, tell her that you know you were
wrong and that you're going to make an extra effort to be a better
developer. I think she will understand.
