all i can say here is that RB said it was a high priority at
RealWorld... so i'd expect something to come around eventually.

I like RB2006 very much too. I only developed simple
applications, and haven't ran in serious problem yet.
Simple applications using RealSQL database is great,
because it fast and easy. However, there's no
security for the data with SQlite. I waited for
awhile for new plug-in for MySQL 5, but I haven't
heard a word from RS. I'm so disappointed.

the problem with upgrading and trying for yourself
is this: you'll do
fine with simple projects while getting the feel for
the new compiler,
and in fact I very much like the look-and-feel of
RB2006. Then you
settle in for a big job, and you find more and more
minor irritants
like GUI quirks, and major problems like random (but
all too frequent)
application crashes. I've been chasing a random
crash in one of my fn
calls for 2 months now, and really don't think it's
my fault (I posted
a msg recently with no reply, no surprise, how does
one help out with
a random memory fault exception). If I don't fix
the problem, my app
is dead in the water, and my only consolation is
that I don't make a
living from it.
I am once again looking at moving to Xcode for good,
but keep coming
back to RB because of its simplicity. But if I
spend 2 months chasing
1 bug unsuccessfully, then one day the balance will
be tipped and I
will have to make the (huge) jump to another dev
tool.
What will happen when the compiler moves to
Universal and Cocoa? I
sympathize with RS and am sure they're making every
effort, but at the
end of the day, I chase many bugs that are not mine,
instead of being
productive.
The love-hate relationship continues
unfortunately....

I have been using RB 5.5 for a while, and had been
discouraged from
upgrading by comments on this list. I do most of
my development on a
600MHz G3 iBook, and the comments suggested that
compile times would
slow down a lot, and that I might have other
problems as well.
I took advantage of the trial download, and have
to say that I was
pleasantly surprised. My applications are not very
large, and I noted
no significant slowdown of compilation. I actually
like the new
windowing system, finding it easier to find the
code than before.
So far I have had all positives except for the
larger folder size.
I would encourage all who are thinking about it to
try the free
download and see for themselves how it works for
them.
