I was apprehensive about the move away from RB5.5.5 because of the
negative press sometimes received on this list. Now I think RB2007 is
far better than RB5.5.5 on Windows in terms of speed, stability and
productivity improvements introduced into the IDE that make navigating
code so much easier. I am currently using a 2 GHz MacBook and find
the Mac RB version is noticeably slower than the Windows version. So
if you want speed, use the Windows version.

I've had a similar experience, the Mac builds of RB200x can't touch the Windows builds in terms of speed. This was true even with my older PC where my Mac had the raw CPU and GPU advantage. On my new PC, RB200x has always felt great in terms of responsiveness.

Is it the freaking renderer? Sounds simple and stupid, but I had to jump through hoops with TextSpresso to get decent drawing speed in my editor and have Quartz rendered glyphs. Quartz has a lot of power but it has always been a complete dog in terms of speed.

Thinking about the UI interactions which give RB the impression of being sluggish on my Mac, stuff like laying out a window, I wonder how much is due to the underlying drawing?
