As a follow-up to a thread from a couple of days ago, I just got off the phone with mySQL sales. If you are using the REALSoftware supplied mySQL plug-in for an application you distribute then you must do one of the following: 1. Release your source code under the GPL If you do not want to release your source code then you have to either: 2. Buy a mySQL server license for every instance you distribute your program, in one of two flavors (it matters not if your customer already has a mySQL server license): A. $295 license if the mySQL server uses the old myISAM format B. $695 license if the mySQL server uses the InnoDB format (Pro license) 3. Join the mySQL partner program for $2,000/yr 4. Stop using the plug-in
It appears that if REALSoftware joined the partner program themselves this issue may be solved as they could close source the plug-in and distribute it. I've added this to my issue: <http://www.realsoftware.com/feedback/viewreport.php?reportid=yjdbsgrf> I, of course, have to choose #4 from the list. Hopefully REAL does something about this.
