It has been made clear on this list though that MySQL considers
their protocol unique enough to protect.
In Germany, like in whole europe, and probably other countries too,
it is very hard to protect concepts.
While concepts manifested in code, CDs or such might get protected,
pure ideas and concepts are totally
different (except music).
A communication protocol is not an abstract concept but a very
concrete thing: e.g. when you receive "A" you must reply "B". Very
rigid and very concrete!
