Fine, thanks for the answer.

Youre missing my point - I wasn't praising or encouraging the
removal of the
NUG - but encouraging Dana to merge the two - so we get to keep OUR
way of
working, but all the info gets shared across both mediums, which I
think is
very sensible. We want to keep our mailing list way of working
while letting
those who prefer the forum way keep theirs, and either way all be
working
on the same hymnsheet.
Keeping to your TV/Radio analogy - I could mention the BBC - who
run both
TV and Radio. Some years back they went through a massive
consolidation and
bought all their news personnel under the same roof. Now news
reports get
shared and broadcast across a range of mediums. People who like
radio can
listen to the same stories there, or on TV or on Internet. Its all
centralised. That's what I was getting at.
Just to reiterate I don't like forums either !!!.

Daniel, you just forget peoples who hate forum.
Even the most wonderful forum that you could imagine, I'll always
hate it (consider it's like choosing between TV or radio. If you
prefer TV, you won't listen to the radio, even to the most wonderful
ever).

Dana - you mentioned consolidation - which is a very good thing. As
is the
push thing. Now just go one step further and write something to
catch,
filter and route our emails back into your "consolidated"
centralised system
and we'll all be happy and the result will be even better than
before.
Another thing to consider is reducing the number of different
sections in
the forum. The more sections there are, the less likely anyone is
to be
monitoring and responding to them all.

We are looking into some options for our forum, like email
notification, to give you a similar "push" to what you experience
from a mailing list, while still keeping all of the data in one
location.

What a poor decision. The forums are horrible to manage, compared
to a decent
mailing list.
While I prefer mailing lists to forums in general, I think I could
make the switch if there were an RSS feed of the forums. My
biggest
issue is that I don't want to go searching for stuff that might
interest me in various categories. If I could browse the forums in
my RSS reader, that would be much better.
