Well sure, if you're going to execute something so fast that it completes immediately and doesn't need any further input. If that's the case, then why WOULD you want to use asynchronous mode? But when it's not the case, then the DataAvailable event will fire periodically when data is available, except for the last batch, for which Completed fires instead.
