Last year, after the conference was over and I was the only one left there, I got in touch with a few friendly Americans. They invited me for dinner to some luxury Mexican restaurant. One of the guys had been to Belgium and actually remembered many of the Belgium beers. Especially Hoegaarden. Shortly after I got back home I read an article about Pierre Celis, the founder of Hoegaarden. He started a new brewery in Austin to introduce white beer to the Americans. The brewery was later acquired by Miller, but closed due to lack of success. Later on the brand name was sold to Michigan Brewing. The beer is now known as Celis White beer. Next time I get there I'll have to ask around where it is served.
