As with any other design decision, you need to know what features and  
limitations you're willing to live with. Not only that, but you  
should ask yourself why you need to invent a new image format when  
there are already lots of image formats already. (i.e. what is it you  
wish to add to your format that none of the other formats support  
(well, if at all.)? And what features will you have to trade off to  
get it?)
