Pakistan property tycoon wants our (Malysian) skilled workers
By MALCOLM ROSARIO, BUSINESS TIMES, March 26 2005

PAKISTAN property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain is exploring the possibility of bringing in skilled workers from Malaysia to meet the manpower needs of Pakistan's construction industry.

Pakistans building and construction industry requires a lot of expertise in the area of building and construction, and I myself want to try and get a hold of some of this expertise from Malaysia, Malik told Business Times.

He did not elaborate on what kind of expertise he was looking for but Malaysian consultancy firm TAK Management Consultants Sdn Bhd said Malik has asked the company to source between 100 and 200 senior executives to work for his group.

TAK said there are other construction companies in Pakistan with similar requirements, and they are willing to pay a premium for the expertise.

TAK, the master planner of Putrajaya, has been working with Malik for some time, and their relationship has flourished. The company has now been asked to source for suitable contractors to partner with Maliks Bahria Group, Pakistans largest property developer.

Bahria has so far awarded billions of dollars worth of construction jobs to Malaysian companies such as Ranhill Bhd and IJM Corp Bhd.

There are several billion dollars worth of projects in the pipeline and, as such, I will try and seek an audience with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to explore how Malaysian construction firms can play a more active role in the development of Pakistan, Malik said.

He said he intends to continue working with Malaysian companies but at the same time tap Malaysias human resource expertise for the Bahria group and those like it.

Malik declined to provide details on the number of skilled workers that is needed in Pakistan or in what specific sector they would be employed in.

Apart from manpower, Malik is also looking into the possibility of importing the bulk of his building materials from Malaysia.

The Bahria group, which is the single largest property developer in Pakistan, has US$35 billion (US$1 = RM3.80) worth of projects in the pipeline, and some of the building materials could come from Malaysia."

Question?

Does the real estate business of Mr. Riaz Malik is qualified to remain as a private limited company in purview of relevant law while the business is thriving on the colossal money collected from thousands of small investors?

Why this company does not goes public and quoted on stock exchange to remain better accountable?

Does a private limited company engaged in housing/real estate entitled under law to enroll membership like a housing society can do?

Sincerely,
Sadiq Baig
