We had some problems in porting our showcase demos on CD
(http://www.asymetrix.com/showcase/) when we tried to use local RAM files to
launch the SMIL presentations. It seems that this is a Netscape issue, only.
To reproduce the problem, just create a local RAM file
(file:mypresentation.smi) and a simple SMIL presentation.
- doubleclick the RAM file and the G2 player will work fine
- drag & drop the RAM file in IE and the G2 player will still work fine
- drag & drop the RAM file in Netscape and the player will return a general
error.
I think this may have something to do with the way Netscape handles the
downloaded files in its local temp directory.

I'm putting together a SMIL presentation for a CDROM.

can comment on some of the pros and cons and also make recommendations
