Yes, but they have to have the same source stream.
What I'd do is make them both point to one SMIL file that contains the elements
you want to show in parallel. Leave the 'layout' and 'region' elements out of
the SMIL, but add REGION="xxxx" attributes to the EMBED statements in your
HTML. The SMIL content elements will appear in the appropriate EMBED areas
based on the region='xxx' attribute in each SMIL element.
