Adam,
Absolutely! As I've said before, the Osprey is a good videoconferencing
board, not a piece of pro video gear. Coming in digitally gives a LOT
higher quality than the consumer-level S-Video and unbalanced audio the
Osprey will give you. Specifically, you'll have less noise in both audio
and video, and more vivid colors. However, you don't need SDI if you're
working with DVCPro. A FireWire solution that captures the native DV
bitstream will offer just as good quality, and with lower data rates and a
lower cost. If you're using Windows, check out EditDV for a simple editing
and capture system, or iFinish with DV option for a full-featured editing
environment.
Media Cleaner Pro can natively read any AVI or QuickTime file captured
with a professional capture board. RealProducer can work with any AVI file,
but can't use the format produce by any modern QuickTime-based card.
