When are we going to avail ourselves of the wisdom and experience being offered
by Aboriginal people like Bill Lord (Letters, January 8)
to solve our nation's problems? It's embarrassing that Mr Lord even has to ask
permission of our Government to give advice on the
bushfires in what is, after all, his people's country.

Likewise with the plan approved by the Environment Minister, David Kemp, to
slaughter 6.9 million kangaroos and wallabies. Let's ask
how Aborigines traditionally dealt with an imbalance in species numbers. Perhaps
the problem never arose when the land was managed
as nature intended.

Diane Davie, Annandale, January 8.
