Maybe you should work with Johannes who just sent a topic to the list titled "amf sending of bitmapdata object" ... which I believe is thinking along the same lines as what you've got in mind.
And I'm sure that there are many of us who could spend an hour or two figuring it out - I have done it in the past, although the method was really messy and slow.
