Dear all, I'm having serious trouble with dump; it aborts with the message "master/slave protocol botched". An example: [root@eddie /]# dump 0ubBdf 128 9757000 61000 /dev/ntape /dev/sdb2 DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Wed May 20 11:06:55 1998 DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch DUMP: Dumping /dev/sdb2 (/hut) to /dev/ntape DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files] DUMP: mapping (Pass II) [directories] DUMP: estimated 217112 tape blocks on 0.02 tape(s). DUMP: dumping (Pass III) [directories] DUMP: master/slave protocol botched. DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted. I'm running RH-5.0, with dump-0.3-11. Two SCSI HDs (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb) and a SCSI DDS-3 tape drive (/dev/ntape) on an AHA 2940-Ultra Wide adapter. Disk sda contains the Linux system on a couple of ext2 partitions (sda1 is a vfat with WinNT), and sdb contains two 'home' filesystems; all ext2. Of course I'm dumping an unmounted filesystem in single user mode (mounted, and/or in multi-user mode, doesn't make a difference). The 'original RH-5.0' dump-0.3-10 fails too. It can happen on the other filesystems as well; I never managed to dump all filesystems successfully ;-( Before, with RH-4.1, it used to work. Additionally, remote dumping of other machines (more Linux boxes, but also a DEC alpha) on my tape drive works fine. Careful thinking about the "master/slave" message didn't reveal any causal relationship with SM practice ;-) A search through the list archives revealed two other questions about this, but no replies ... Any help would be appreciated!
